OBSERVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS:
A highly satisfactory level of care was maintained for the patients both at the holding camp (Day sec, school) and the hospital wards. The maximum stay being not more than 24hours before the patients were discharged.
Basic investigations (Urine for surger, High Blood Pressure, Eye Infections etc) were carried out on the patients during screening, thus confirming them for surgery. Several patients rejected as they were flagged when these test were conducted on them.
Early preparation, primarily the early release of funds by sponsors to FIMA secretariat for early dispatch of supply.
Notification and/or disclosure to federal Government Agencies, such as NAFDAC and the Nigeria custom service, of the proposed Eye camp(s) to be held and the list of the quantities of supplies and consumables being imported.
Registration of the Visiting Doctors with the Nigeria Medical Association. Seven of the Doctors the Doctors that participated in the just concluded camps have successfully been registered.
There is the need for the provision of the Identification of tags in the subsequent camp(s) so as to clearly identify key camp Personnel.
Measures should be put in place for the patients to wash their faces, hands and feet before entering the theatre and also for the patients to be provided with theatre gowns before surgery. This will minimize infections.
Bilateral case should be flagged during pre-camp screening to ensure adequate spacing between surgeries.
